Plans and pricing
Everything on your own machine is free forever, with no account. Viewers, commenters, and agents are free and unlimited, and bandwidth is never metered. Eidos online charges for one thing: a person editing a project online. Prices are in US dollars, and the pricing page sets the plans side by side.
Free, always
Section titled “Free, always”- Everything on your machine: the CLI, the desktop app, the standard, the Registry, every plugin, git, your own AI agent, and working local and offline. No account, no trial that runs out. Nothing local is ever behind a plan.
- Viewers and commenters, without limit, on every project.
- Agents. An agent never takes a seat or counts as a member: it works with the access and the seat of the person it acts for.
- Bandwidth. Downloads, sync, and the number of projects you open are never metered.
- Leaving. Stopping sync leaves a plain folder that works as it always did.
The free account
Section titled “The free account”Signing in is free. A free account has its settings synced on every device, online projects without limit, and, across every project under it, its owner and up to two other editors who hold no seat. The two are counted as people, not invitations: someone who edits three of your projects is one of your two. You choose who they are under Free editors in Plan and billing. Its projects share 1 GB of storage.
A seat
Section titled “A seat”An editor’s seat is $4.99 a month, or $49.90 a year (two months free). A seat is a person’s, never a project’s: someone who holds one edits every online project they are invited to as an editor, at no cost to that project’s owner. The two free editors stay as they were.
Each project under an account with a seat has 10 GB of storage of its own. A project’s storage is raised in steps of 50 GB (Add storage), each $4.99 a month or $49.90 a year, for that project alone.
The free trial
Section titled “The free trial”Start a free trial, in Plan and billing or wherever you first need a seat, gives you a seat for 30 days with no card. Each person has one trial. Seven days before it ends, one notice, in the account menu and by email, says the day it ends: add a card and the seat goes on, paid from that day, or do nothing and keep the free plan. Nothing you made during the trial is lost either way.
Paying for your team
Section titled “Paying for your team”Invite, under Seats in Plan and billing, pays for someone else’s seat, so a team pays for its people on one bill. Buy the number of seats you need, type a person’s email, and Send invite. They accept from their account menu (Maya invited you, then Accept) or from the one email the invite sends, and nothing is charged to them. You see each person you pay for by name and email, and whether they have accepted, never their projects or their work. Take back returns a seat to you to give again, at any time.
A person holds one seat at a time. Accepting a seat while they pay for their own ends their own, and what is unused of it is refunded to their card.
Inviting someone to a project once both free editors are taken asks what happens if they hold no seat: the owner chooses Pay for their seat (one of the seats they pay for goes to them as they join, or one more is bought then) or Invite as a commenter (they join as a commenter, made an editor once they hold a seat), and a manager chooses Invite as a commenter or Ask the owner. See Invite a teammate.
What the account menu says
Section titled “What the account menu says”Under your name, the account menu says your plan in a few words: Free, Trial until a date, Seat, Seat from the person who pays for it, or Seat lapsed. Exclusive is a seat granted by Eidos at no cost; it is not something you buy.
Paying
Section titled “Paying”A card is typed into Stripe’s own fields on the page, and Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link are offered where your browser has them. Eidos never sees the card’s number. Every charge is shown before it is made. A seat moves from monthly to yearly at once, and from yearly to monthly at its renewal.
Seats added part way through a period are charged today for the rest of it; seats removed end at the renewal, with no refund. Stop at renewal, under Billing, keeps everything until the date it renews and then ends it. Nothing is deleted.
Devices
Section titled “Devices”An account is active on three devices at once, on every plan, a device being a desktop app or a browser it is signed in on. Signing in on a fourth asks which of the three to sign out, and the one signed out keeps its changes waiting until it signs in again. Agents and commands never count as devices. See Your account.
When a limit is reached
Section titled “When a limit is reached”A limit never locks, hides, or deletes anything. Only the thing past it waits:
- An editor without a seat, past the owner’s two free editors, keeps editing on their own machine. Their changes wait there, counted in the sync widget (3 waiting for a seat), and send once they hold a seat or the owner covers them. Meanwhile they read and comment as before.
- A project at its storage limit still takes every change to its text files. Only an asset file added past the limit waits on the machine it was added on, and syncs once there is room.
- A seat that lapses (a trial ended unpaid, a seat stopped, or a payment still failing after Stripe’s retries) deletes nothing: its person is an editor without a seat, as above, until they hold one again.
A price, or an offer to pay, is shown only to the person it would be charged to. There are no banners and no countdowns, and the only email about a plan is a receipt, a payment that failed (to the person paying), one notice before a trial ends, and a seat someone invites you to.
Your own server
Section titled “Your own server”A team that runs the service on its own server (Self-hosting) has no storage limit but its own disk, and its members never deal with Eidos at all. Viewers, commenters, and agents are free there too.
- Up to three editors, the server is free, with no licence and no Eidos account.
- From a fourth, its owner buys a licence that covers every editor, at the price of a seat online and with no trial: a team of four needs four seats, $19.96 a month or $199.60 a year. Until then the editors made most recently wait, as a lapsed seat does.
- A licence by agreement, granted by Eidos, covers every editor with no end date and is never billed.
The licence is bought under Servers in Plan and billing. See the licence.
